Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110)

Training & Assessment

The principle objective of this program is to provide highly structured training for those looking to gain National
Accreditation as Workplace Trainers and Assessors, so that they may develop the skills necessary to carry out quality
training and assessing in their own fields of expertise, within the Vocational Education & Training (VET) and aligned
sectors.

The TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment reflects the roles of individuals delivering training and
assessment services in the VET sector. The revision process has focused on presenting shorter, simplified, user-friendly
units which are no less comprehensive.

The TAE40110 qualification comprises a total of 10 units of competency – 7 core units plus 3 elective units.
TAA40104 Certificate IV Training and Assessment was very well received throughout the VET sector as a benchmark
qualification for those delivering education and training both in the VET sector and in the wider education community
where VET-related programs are delivered. As of 31 December 2005, students were no longer able to enrol into the
original qualification in this field, Certificate IV in Assessment and workplace Training (BSZ40198) and TAA40104 was
introduced.

Since January 2005, students were able to enrol in Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAA40104), which increased
the original qualification from 8 modules to 14, and had elective options.

The qualification has been in operation for some five years, and given the importance of the qualification for the sector, a
review was necessary and timely. Colleagues from around the country have contributed to a robust critique of the existing
qualification, which has resulted in an updated qualification, TAE40110, reflecting the broad requirements of the
constituency. Revised qualification - outcomes deemed as equivalent to TAA40104

Achievement of this qualification or an equivalent by trainers and assessors is a requirement of the Australian Quality
Training Framework Essential Standards for Registration (Standard 1 as outlined in Appendix 2 of the Users' Guide to the
Essential Standards for Registration).

This qualification, or the skill sets derived from units of competency within it, is also suitable preparation for those engaged
in the delivery of training and assessment of competence in a workplace context, as a component of a structured VET
program.
